The act of vandalism was captured by a video camera, the thieves were searched for, but not found. The author of the monument, the ambassador of the Ural Mountains Oleg Chegodaev (RG-Nedelya wrote about her journey across the Urals two years ago) even publicly appealed to the thieves with a request to return the tick. In return, he promised silver key chains with a tick, but to no avail. The loss of the monument, by the way, the smallest in the city, upset the Ufimians, and Oleg, without thinking twice, ordered a new one. It was made in 925 sterling silver in the image and likeness of the first.

The idea to erect a monument to the tick was born from Oleg Chegodaev two years ago, during the pandemic, when he saw a mural depicting a nurse making an obscene gesture to the coronavirus. But it was a copy of a work created in the USA. And so he decided to give the city an original sculpture. They became a tick, one of the symbols of wildlife, part of the ecosystem, without which it would collapse. As Oleg Chegodaev says, the monument is intended to remind once again: it is necessary to treat any living creature with due respect, because each of us has his own place in nature and is important. No wonder the inscription on the pedestal is “I alone, like you, want to live.” By the way, the residents of Ufa called the tick Valera. The name is clearly inspired by the common meme “Tick Valera congratulates you on the start of the season and invites you to a barbecue!”.

Yes, ticks are not harmless, they carry such dangerous diseases as encephalitis and borreliosis. But protection against them has existed for a long time – this is a vaccine.

The monument, which immediately became a landmark of the city, performs an important educational function: parents taking children explain what kind of insect it is and how to protect themselves from its bites.

It is interesting that the stones surrounding the monument are not simple, they are from the Urals. The one on the sculpture was brought from the top of Dunan-Suigan, the one on the base – from the Karatash ridge, from Aigir, the most popular tourist place. And the path leading to the monument is lined with stones brought from different Ural peaks by friends and like-minded people who are just as in love with mountains as Oleg Chegodaev.
