The Venice authorities have postponed until next summer the introduction of tourist taxes for day visits to the city. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to a statement by a representative of the city administration.
“The city council decided to postpone the date at least until summer. Previously, visiting Venice without staying overnight was supposed to be paid from January 16, ”said the agency’s interlocutor.
According to him, to prepare a new measure and eliminate the latest shortcomings, it will take about six months. Before the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the Venice authorities planned to charge a new tax from July 2020, but the current situation postponed its introduction.
Following the influx of tourists during the 2022 Easter holidays, Mayor Luigi Brugnaro once again announced the prospect of paid visits to the city. During discussions about the new tax, the Venice authorities decided to exempt residents of the Veneto region, as well as the disabled, students and employees of local companies.
Earlier, scientists began work on the “transfer” of Venice in virtual reality. Specialists managed to complete the work on one of the city islands – San Giorgio. Now all the buildings on the island, their interior and exterior, can be viewed in high resolution. Read more here.
