According to the Investigative Committee of the Volgograd Region, the tragedy occurred last summer. A 24-year-old woman left her son alone in an apartment on Avtomagistralnaya Street and went on a spree.
As investigators discovered, the mother was drinking alcohol across town in the company of drinking buddies while the baby was dying without food or water. The grandmother found the dead child four days later. The mother never showed up at the apartment.
The woman was found by the police on behalf of the Investigative Committee. A criminal case was opened against her for the murder of a minor, as well as for failure to fulfill parental responsibilities and child abuse.
The court sentenced the accused to 18 years in a general regime colony. After serving his sentence, his freedom will also be restricted for one year.
