Recently, Scholz has actively opposed calls by the US and EU to impose an oil and gas embargo on Russia. He was prime minister of Germany in December 2021.
When talking about this issue, it’s important to make a well-rounded decision with consequences in mind, stresses the politician. “If this import were interrupted for one day, it would lead to entire branches of production being forced to stop their activities. We would have provoked a major economic crisis,” said the Chancellor.
In March, it was evident that Germany would not make any more energy sacrifices. They will continue buying hydrocarbons from the Russian Federation.
