As RG has already written, at the championship of the republic, Amina Abakarova tried to poison her opponent by spilling mercury on his table. Employees of the AE Karpov chess sports school reported that the incident occurred on the evening of August 2. 40-year-old Amina Abakarova spilled mercury next to her opponent’s chessboard at the tournament. After which 30-year-old Umayganat Osmanova felt unwell and an ambulance was called.

“The participant received first aid on the spot and is now fine,” said an employee of the sports school where the tournament was held.

The incident is currently under investigation. Abakarov has already been arrested. Investigators discovered this thanks to CCTV cameras.

After the incident, Amina Abakarov was withdrawn from the tournament: according to representatives of the championship organizer, she did not make it to the fifth round. And Umaiganat Osmanova, after an attempted poisoning, scored 3 points out of 4 possible and took second place in the Republican championship.
