According to the latest data from the industry monitoring system, in the first quarter of this year, Russian fishermen caught more than 1.48 million tons of fish, 11% more than the level of the same period in 2022.

In particular, a comparable increase in catch to the level of 130 thousand tons is recorded in the Northern Fisheries Basin, of which: cod 73 thousand tons, haddock – 24.6 thousand tons and capelin – 23.1 thousand tons. This, of course, increases the load on the port infrastructure.

One of the most popular fishing groups today is the Murmansk Sea Fishing Port (MMRP), which provides more than 40% of the transshipment of fishery products in the Arctic and Baltic basins combined (13% of the transshipment of fish in the Russian Federation). In 2022, cargo turnover -the main indicator of port activity- increased by 23.4% compared to 2021 and amounted to 326.4 thousand tons, including 237.5 thousand tons of fishery products.

At the same time, only the port of St. Petersburg can be an alternative to Murmansk for unloading fish from the Barents Sea, but this adds additional logistical leverage and leads to an increase in the cost of products.

As the JSC of the Murmansk sea fishing port noted, the constantly increasing production capacities make it possible to successfully cope with the further growth of fish transshipment. Already this year it is planned to process at least 328.8 thousand tons of fish products.

Investments in recent years have made it possible to ensure the increasing volumes of fish transhipment. Over a period of seven years, about 2 billion rubles were invested in the fixed capital of MMRP. Assets from 2016 to the end of 2021 increased by 955 million rubles (by 224.5%), including fixed assets – by 434 million rubles (by 210%). Revenues (without heating and without providing moorings) have grown by 67% since 2017. These important financial investments made it possible to modernize the port and increase the productivity of its facilities. Existing handling equipment was upgraded and repaired and new one was purchased. Sites for refrigerated containers were built, open storage areas with a total area of 19.5 thousand square meters were organized. meters Railway tracks, access roads, railway tracks for cranes were laid. The transport fleet was replenished with its own maneuverable locomotives. Communication lines, networks and devices for power supply, water and heat supply and sanitation, engineering communications have been upgraded. New electric and docking water pumps were also put into operation, platforms were equipped for the collection of garbage from ships, and administrative and recreational premises were repaired. All this will ensure a more efficient and efficient operation of the port, which makes a significant contribution to the development of the fishing industry in the North Sea basin.
