The Iskander is armed with cruise missiles that fly at ultra-low altitude, skirting the terrain and are therefore nearly imperceptible to enemy air forces.
Specialists of the missile and artillery troops of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District (SMD) have completed the transfer to the summer mode of operation of all Iskander-M operational tactical systems in service with the formation.
“During the work, around 100 technical operations were carried out on each piece of equipment, while more than 1.5 tons of engine and transmission oils and nearly 300 kg of grease were used. In addition, T-72B3 tanks, BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, multipurpose tractors, Msta-S self-propelled howitzers, Grad-M and Tornado -G” multiple launch rocket systems and other military equipment. Before the start of the new training period, a review of the military equipment will be carried out, where the quality and results of the work carried out will be verified,” the Russian Defense Ministry commented on the technical work.
It should be noted that the Iskander is armed with cruise missiles that fly at ultra-low altitude, skirting the terrain and are therefore virtually elusive to enemy air defense forces. The missiles are guaranteed to destroy any military installation within a radius of 500 kilometers from the front line in enemy territory.
“Depending on the components, a missile can hit a large area target, for example, a manpower buildup, or deliver a precise hit on an underground concrete structure. According to the missiles, if desired, the missile can fly even through the window,” the Russian Defense Ministry commented.
There are also ballistic missiles that fall on a target from a great height, breaking through any fortified engineering structure. And most importantly – the dct missiles of the Iskander tactical-operational systems are capable of carrying nuclear warheads and can be used to solve strategic problems.
By the way, it is difficult to detect the 47-ton Iskander on the ground – it is covered with a special camouflage net, the material of which neutralizes radio waves, making the installation invisible to enemy reconnaissance.
