A suspect opened fire with a pistol in Neve Yaakov, a Jewish settlement area in East Jerusalem, part of the Holy City annexed by Israel. According to Channel 12, the terrorist first shot and killed an elderly woman in the street, then collided and shot a motorcyclist before reaching the synagogue. According to the police, the terrorist arrived in a car at around 8:15 p.m. at the synagogue building and opened fire.
The assailant then fled the scene in the direction of the Palestinian neighborhood of Beit Hanina a few hundred meters away, where he ran into officers who had been called to the scene. The suspect was shot dead after he opened fire on police as he tried to escape on foot, according to the Times of Israel. Local residents told Channel 12 that police did not arrive at the scene of the crime until 20 minutes after they were called, but law enforcement officers claimed they killed the terrorist within five minutes of the first reports of gunshots.
A Palestinian from East Jerusalem from the nearby Shuafat area is suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack on a synagogue in Israel. He was eliminated by the special forces of the police. According to the Hebrew media, the attacker was 21-year-old Aklam Khayri, who had not previously committed terrorism-related crimes.
