It seems that the current year will go down in the history of Russian cinema as one of the most vicious. It hasn’t even been half a year, and at least two blockbusters have already hit the big screens, racking up box office records.
The family fairy tale “Cheburashka” and the space blockbuster “Challenge” broke into the list of the most popular projects in the world for obvious reasons: the first project collected 6.78 billion rubles (only in Russia, and the world distribution is ahead), the second – almost 1.5 billion rubles.

The strong performance helped Russian films to enter the list of the most popular projects in the world. According to the American portal The Numbers, which calculates the rates of films from around the world in real time, two Russian films made it into the top 50.

And if “Challenge” modestly settled on the penultimate line, then “Cheburashka” rose to the twentieth, bypassing fairly high-profile projects: “Air: Big Jump” (85.4 million dollars) by Ben Affleck, ” Operation Fortune”: Guy Ritchie’s The Art of Winning ($27.5 million) and The Translator ($15.2 million).
