Italian footballer Gianluca Vialli – World Cup bronze medalist and former coach of the Italian national team – has died

Italian soccer player Gianluca Vialli dies at the age of 58. The cause of the incident was pancreatic cancer, against which the athlete has been fighting since 2017. It is reported by Sky Sports.

In 2020, Vialli underwent chemotherapy and declared that he had overcome the disease. However, in 2021 he had to return to treatment.

During his career, the footballer came to play for Italian Cremonese, Sampdoria and Juventus, as well as English Chelsea. He won the Italian championship twice and the Coppa Italia four times. He became the winner of the Champions League, the owner of the UEFA Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

In 1988, as part of the Italian national team, he became a bronze medalist at the European Championships, and two years later he won the bronze medal at the World Championships. Since 1996 he played for Chelsea and in 1998 he became their manager. Under Vialli’s leadership, the club achieved victories in the League Cup, the FA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
