Thus, in the first half of this year, according to operational data, 1,618 road accidents were recorded. This is 4.4 percent less than last year. These accidents killed 260 people, a decrease of 18.6 percent. 1,865 people were injured. This is 6.7 percent less than the previous year.
However, the number of children killed on the roads this semester has doubled compared to last year. And if broken down by category, the number of children killed in accidents who were transported unbuckled or without car seats has tripled. As Vladimir Sevostyanov explained, the increase in the number of child accidents occurred during holidays. If earlier children often went to resorts, including abroad, now they spend their holidays more often at their place of residence or at dachas in the Moscow region. In addition, a rather impressive number of citizens from neighbouring countries have settled in the Moscow region. Many of them have already managed to obtain Russian citizenship, but they are not yet accustomed to traffic. And the number of drivers in the Moscow region increases every year by several tens of thousands, if we also take into account transit transport.
It should also be noted that the number of child passengers who die in accidents has also increased. Also three times. And this is the specific fault of an adult driver who transported a child without concern for his safety.
Vladimir Sevostyanov also shared data on how many fines have been imposed on drivers in the past six months: 18,270.
It should be noted that the number of cameras on the roads of the region increased significantly last year. Now there are 2,113 of them. However, according to the deputy head of the traffic police of the Moscow region, the number of detected violations has increased, but not by much. This is mainly due to the fact that cameras have been equipped with new functions. For example, checking whether the driver or his passenger is wearing a seat belt. If there were three such cameras in the Moscow region before, now there are 16.
