Kering promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40%

Date: March 29, 2024 Time: 16:48:58

Kering, the parent company of Balenciaga, Gucci, Saint Laurent and other luxury brands, plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40%. These results are expected to be achieved by 2035.

World Water Day recalls that 40 is a key number for Kering, which in 2017 set out to reduce its environmental impact by 40% by 2025, and this year the goal was exceeded.

“We see what is happening around the world, how the climate is changing, and we would like to go one step further. The company really takes into account all the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our production,” said Marie-Claire Davue, sustainability and institutional affairs specialist.

Looking at the company’s previous targets, Davyu noted that they were focused on intensity, but if the conglomerate continues to grow, its emissions will increase as well. This new target establishes a direct link between Kering’s growth and its greenhouse gas emissions and limits them.

This means that as emissions in one category or brand increase, the company will reduce or make concessions in other areas. Dave emphasizes that large-scale events, such as fashion shows, are taken into account.

Previously, the sports brands Nike and Puma abandoned the use of kangaroo leather for the production of football boots. It will be replaced by synthetic material. We talk about it in more detail here.
