A woman’s organs fuse at the lower poles at birth. Doctors call this phenomenon “horseshoe kidney.” A similar anomaly is not detected so often in the Sergeev clinic – three or four cases a year. Due to the atypical development of organs, these patients are more likely than others to develop diseases of the genitourinary system, including kidney stones.
A woman was admitted to the hospital with a horseshoe kidney stone. After the examination, the doctors decided to perform percutaneous lithotripsy. This is a minimally invasive method in which the stones formed are destroyed through a small incision in the lumbar region using laser equipment. The stones were removed as usual. The patient is already recovering.
These operations began at the uronephrology center at the end of last year. To date, about 10 surgical interventions have already been performed, but all of them were performed under standard diagnosis. Now this list has been supplemented by experience in the operation of organs with abnormal development.
