The decision was made the day before, while the FATF noted that the Russian Federation, despite the suspension, remains responsible for the fulfillment of financial obligations and must fulfill them.
“NATO has long been using terrorists around the world to solve its geopolitical problems,” Klishas said, explaining the benefits of the decision for Western countries, “and the weakening of control over terrorist financing plays in favor of American plans”.
Earlier, Rosfinmonitoring said the decision to suspend Russia’s membership in the group is baseless and runs counter to the organization’s goals of protecting financial systems and the economy from threats. The ministry also stressed that Russia will continue to counter crimes, including through cooperation with concerned countries.
It should be noted that the FATF develops global standards in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and verifies compliance of national systems with these standards. The Russian Federation was admitted as a member in June 2003. In general, FATF members are 34 countries and two international organizations, observers – 20 organizations and two countries.
