A university was created on the basis of vocational school N 72, which at the beginning of the century trained masons, painters, plasterers and other masters of the building trade. The ideological inspirer and ancestor of the institute (since 2014 the university), a rare educational institution for regional centers, was Anatoly Evgenievich Shamin, rector of Knyaginin University, doctor of economic sciences, professor.
Thanks to the university, the city of Knyaginino has become one of the most student-friendly in the world: according to some data, one in five inhabitants of the regional center is a student. According to Anatoly Shamin, today’s university is practice-oriented educational programs aimed at the success of graduates.
“They are guaranteed more employment in industries that are of priority importance for our region,” said Anatoly Shamin.

Today the university has 2,641 full-time students and 1,653 part-time students. 2980 students master higher professional education programs, 1314 – secondary vocational education, 54 people study in postgraduate studies. In addition, each year more than 300 people take courses in advanced training programs, more than 50 people in recycling programs, 150 people in car drivers and up to 40 people in mass professions.
