TASS organized a press conference dedicated to upcoming anniversaries: the 125th anniversary of the Moscow Art Theater named after AP Chekhov, the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Moscow Art Theater School and the 100th anniversary of the Theater Museum of Moscow Art.
In a slightly hoarse voice, the artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater Konstantin Khabensky announced extensive plans for the anniversary year. He promised to embody them without vanity.
From the closest – the presentation of the award of the Moscow Art Theater in various fields of art. This is a new award, it will be awarded for the first time and only to young talents (under 35 years of age), who have clearly declared themselves in various fields: from theater to ballet and opera, from contemporary art to classical music. , literature and cinema
The winners of the Art Theater Award will receive statuettes – reduced copies of the high-relief “The Swimmer” by the famous sculptor Anna Golubkina. The first ceremony will take place on International Theater Day on March 27.
Of the closest premieres of the Moscow Art Theater – the play “Uncle Vanya”, presented by director Denis Azarov. The show will be shown on March 18. And judging by the composition of the artists, the new “Uncle Vanya” can be interesting. In the role of Ivan Voinitsky – Sergei Epishev.
The next release will be Lermontov’s Masquerade, then Shakespeare’s As You Like It… A collection of commemorative coins will be released. There will be a photo album, where you can clearly see the entire history of the Art Theater from the first steps to the present. In the summer, a photo exhibition will open on the boulevards of Moscow. And another great exhibition in the Manege.
Khabensky promised that the 14 premieres he announced at the beginning of the season would definitely come out.
Another interesting thing: the director of the Museum of the Moscow Art Theater Sofya Gracheva spoke about a new museum project – a video tour, during which stories about the Moscow Art Theater will be told. “Not stories, but fiction based on true events,” Khabensky specified.
The rector of the Moscow Art Theater School Igor Zolotovitsky told how he sees the upcoming anniversary celebrations:
– Konstantin Sergeevich Stanislavsky and Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko are not icons in the portrait hall of the theater. These are living people. And Chekhov, when he composed his works, was generally called an absurdity. Critics were outraged: why do Chekhov’s heroes speak so simply? Why do the actors in his plays play with their backs to the audience? 125 years ago, when the Moscow Art Theater appeared, many theatrical figures tried to create their own theater. But they didn’t make it, while Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko could…
Answering questions from journalists, Khabensky diplomatically explained why so many premieres are planned this season:
– The theater did not work 100% for a long time, – said Konstantin Yuryevich. Apparently, this was a reproach to the former artistic director, Sergei Zhenovach. – For this reason, we have 14 premieres planned. It is time to fill and refresh the repertoire. In the current there are performances that limp. This is a disaster. An actor without a new job can become a person who works in a factory, on an assembly line… This is not very good.
When asked how his life changed after becoming an artistic director, Khabensky replied:
– I spend all my time at the Moscow Art Theater. But I’m not complaining. We are very close to what we are doing, planning, succeeding. Everything in our hands. Well, I don’t have a movie today, but I’ve filmed enough…
