According to the Ministry of Energy, several hydroelectric and solar power plants with a total capacity of more than 40 megawatts were put into operation in the first half of 2024.

– The reconstruction of the hydroelectric units of the Toktogul and Uch-Korgon hydroelectric power plants has begun. Preparations for the construction of Kambar-Aty-1 are underway, said Deputy Energy Minister Kursantbek Omurbekov.

According to the ministry’s forecasts, in the coming autumn-winter period, coal consumption in the republic will exceed 2.5 million tons, and fuel oil consumption – 55 million tons. “The estimated volume of natural gas supplies to Kyrgyzstan in 2024 will be 490 million cubic meters. The level of gasification in the country has reached 40 percent,” the deputy minister said.

The meeting also discussed the implementation of the large-scale CASA-1000 project, which should connect the energy systems of the countries of Central and South Asia: Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. According to the Ministry of Energy, the construction of a power transmission line on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic with a length of 456 kilometers is already 90 percent complete. The power line will be fully ready in the fall of 2024.

By the way, in July President Sadyr Japarov signed an agreement on additional financing for the CASA-1000 project in the amount of $31.3 million. The funds in the form of interest-free loans will be provided by the Islamic Development Bank and the International Development Association.

As for preparations for the autumn-winter period of 2024-2025, according to the Ministry of Energy, they are going according to plan. “Repair and restoration work is underway at all hydroelectric power plants, power grid companies and heat supply plants,” the Ministry of Energy noted.
