The Latvian Citizenship and Migration Affairs Office (PMLP) decided not to cancel work visas for employees of the Dozhd TV channel (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia. – Note BURO.). This is how the Delfi publication reports it.
The administration checked the visas of the channel’s employees and decided that the Dozhd representatives could stay in Latvia and continue to work there. The journalists explained that the purpose of the visa, employment, remains relevant as company employees continue to create content for distribution on social media and digital channels.
The PMLP noted that while they uphold the purpose of the document, they have no legal basis to cancel the journalists’ visas. In early December, the Latvian National Council for Electronic Media (NEPLP) revoked the license of the Dozhd TV channel.
There were several reasons for this, according to Baltijas Balss: “Rain” did not provide a dubbed sound track in the national language, showed a map with Crimea as part of Russia, and also called the Russian Armed Forces “our army.”
In addition, Dozhd TV channel’s new site, tvrain.tv, is no longer open to users located in Russia. It is only accessible via VPN. Read more here.
