Legendary soccer player Pelé dies

Three-time world champion Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, has died at the age of 82. It is reported by the Associated Press.

“We became what we are thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace,” wrote Pelé’s daughter, Keli Nascimento, on social media.

In September 2021, Pelé underwent surgery to remove a tumor in his colon, after which he was hospitalized several more times. At the end of November 2022, the footballer was again in the hospital to adjust the course of chemotherapy and due to a lung infection caused by a coronavirus.

On December 22, doctors reported that Pele’s condition worsened, he was also diagnosed with heart and kidney dysfunction. Pelé is the only player in history to have won the World Cup three times as a player (1958, 1962, 1970). He played 92 games for Brazil and scored 77 goals.
