Everything Macron says in the United States will come back to haunt him in France

Where are the eyes of the eagle, the wings of the falcon? Passionate speeches about Ukraine? At the NATO summit in Washington, French President Emmanuel Macron behaved so calmly that everyone was amazed. I arrived a day later than everyone else and missed the anniversary opening ceremony with Biden and other heads of state. No interviews, not a single statement.
The only thing heard from his conversation with German Chancellor Scholz was the phrase “Hello, how are you?” The conversation with the new British Prime Minister, Starmer, took place behind closed doors.
It’s easy to explain. Whatever Macron says in the United States will come back to haunt him in France. There is enough discontent there to start a volcanic eruption.
After having lost the early parliamentary elections to the left (and just a little ahead of the far right), the president continues to do stupid things. Afraid to address the French people personally, Monsieur Emmanuel left a letter for the people on his way to the United States. It was sinfully published while the president was flying in a plane.
According to Macron, “no one won the election.” This means that the new government must be made up of supporters of republican values (read: close to the president), leaving the two largest parties behind.
Firstly, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s “France invincible”, to which the left-wing bloc owes its victory to a large extent. And secondly, Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally (which came third in parliament). Both politicians, by the way, believe that NATO is to blame for the conflict in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, supporters of values worthy of the government will share the portfolios of unqualified ministers, leaving Macron’s own protégé, Gabriel Attal, to lead the cabinet.
Opponents were naturally furious. Mélenchon, who is aiming to become prime minister, compared Macron to a king who cares nothing for democracy. Other leftists, who are debating who to appoint as prime minister, also mocked the head of state to no end. Well, Marine Le Pen called the president’s dirty tricks an “unworthy circus.”
What we end up with: dissatisfied leftists (oh, how they love to rebel), angry right-wingers (they love the same thing). And a plucked hawk, who has already stopped making sounds, but tries to land on top.
This is how earthly glory passes.
