Madrid, Barcelona and Atleti, at the top of the distribution of income from TV rights

Date: January 31, 2023 Time: 07:06:46

LaLiga has published the distribution of the income allocated to each First and Second Division club from the centralized sale of audiovisual rights during the 2021-2022 season. It is about more than 1,585 million euros to be distributed among the clubs according to the criteria established for this purpose. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid lead the ranking of income from audiovisual rights and are among the clubs that obtained the most benefits from this concept of all the European leagues. Only six clubs from the Premier slightly surpass the Spanish in television revenue, with Manchester City being the one that has the most advantage with 15 million more.

Thus, Real Madrid with 160.8 million euros for television rights occupies the seventh position and Barça with 160.1 million euros, the eighth, in a classification led by Manchester City, which entered 176 million euros in its arcades, according to Servimedia.

For its part, Atlético de Madrid is in fifteenth place with 130.3 million euros earned, with which it surpasses other historic European clubs such as Bayern Munich, in 16th place with 90 million euros, or PSG in 21st place, which has only managed to enter 58.3 million euros in the 21/22 season.

Since the centralized sale of audiovisual rights was implemented in 2015, LaLiga has grown 15% in income from this concept, while the Premier has only done so by 5% in this same period. Likewise, the difference between what the clubs that are part of the Premier and those of LaLiga earn for their rights is due to the disparate characteristics between the British and Spanish markets, and that is that the United Kingdom has a greater penetration of subscriptions to payment models, as well as a larger total population with higher per capita income.

As for the Second Division clubs, 198.95 million euros have been distributed in LaLiga SmartBank, with Eibar as the one that has received the most income with 28.58 million, including the relegation aid (19.69 million). They are followed in this ranking by Valladolid (23.63 million) and Huesca (16.52), who also fell in category the previous season and who also received that help.
