American director Martin Scorsese, known for the films “Taxi Driver” and “The Wolf of Wall Street”, wants to star in his own film, which will be dedicated to the life of Jesus Christ. This is what the filmmaker said in an interview with Time.
In May, Scorsese met with Pope Francis at the Vatican. Then the director announced that he had begun working on a script in which the figure of Jesus would appear. Scorsese’s new film was inspired by the pontiff’s call to create art that speaks to humanity.
“I responded to the Pope’s call for artists the only way I know how: I devised and wrote a script for a film about Jesus. And I’m going to start creating it,” Scorsese said.
Now the filmmaker has clarified that he will become not only the director of the project, but also one of the actors. He admitted that he still doesn’t know what the movie will be like, but it definitely won’t have a direct narrative. Scorsese admitted that the film borrows some ideas that occurred to the director while he was working on the 2016 film Silence. This film became Scorsese’s second work filmed on a religious theme. The first was 1988’s The Last Temptation of Christ.
Previously, streaming service Apple TV showed off the third trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new film Killers of the Flower Moon. The main roles in the film were played by Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone.
