Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker: “Bookmate” will present classic books that have not been translated into Russian before

The Bookmate book service announced the creation of the Bookmate Translations series, within the framework of which books of foreign classics, previously ignored for the first time, will be published in Russian.

The series will include the adventure novel “The Secret of the Sea” by Bram Stoker, the author of “Dracula”, “Faulkner” by Mary Shelley, best known for the novel “Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus”, “Behind the Mask” by Louisa May Alcott is one of the first texts published by an American writer known for her autobiographical novel Little Women.

And also “The Other House” by Henry James, a classic of American literature that paid attention to the interaction of the cultures of the Old and the New World in the novels. Pulitzer Prize-winning Edith Wharton’s “Sanctuary” and Etsu Inagaki Sugimoto’s “The Samurai’s Daughter,” which is based on the story of a girl born in feudal Japan and sent to the United States to be fixed.

Translators working on the series include Sergey Karpov (David Foster Wallace’s The Infinite Jest, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Yulia Zmeeva (Elizabeth Gilbert’s City of Women and Eat Pray Love, Wife” Meg Wolitzer), Alexandra Glebovskaya (“Normal People” by Sally Rooney, “The Christmas Pig” by JK Rowling), Yulia Poleshchuk (“Crossroads” and “The End of the End of the Earth” by Jonathan Franzen, “The Witch Elm” by Tana French) .

The electronic and audio books will appear on Bookmate, and the print versions will be published by Subscription Editions.

As a reminder, Bookmate, together with fanzon publishing house, will hold a panel discussion dedicated to Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin on June 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Plus Dacha in Gorky Park.
