“As for changes in legislation, of course, it is necessary to carry out a more thorough and attentive analysis of the past elections by the Ministry of the Interior, other structures and Parliament. So far, off the cuff, I do not see that they are needed serious changes to our electoral system, it is perfect,” Matvienko told reporters.
In his opinion, the individual actions of people who tried to prevent the expression of citizens’ will and interfere in the electoral process were insignificant.
“But, nevertheless, they occurred and I think that in this part it is necessary to strengthen the legislation in terms of increasing the responsibility of citizens for such crimes and strengthening the punishment for such acts,” continued the president of the Federation Council. .
He recalled that during the vote there were several attempts to fill the ballots with paint, bright green or iodine.
“Mostly these were people deceived by the same scammers and manipulators on the networks,” the politician believes, “however, they must be held accountable for such actions.”
