Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, has warned that the Ukrainian capital could face an “apocalypse” this winter. He urges all residents to be prepared to evacuate the city if necessary.
Mayor Klitschko said “An apocalypse like those in Hollywood films can happen if the city doesn’t take preventative measures,” because of the “low temperature.” He said that the Capital City is doing everything it can to prevent this from happening.
According to him, Kyiv may be left without any heat and light in the case of complete blackouts. The mayor urged residents to prepare for evacuating if the situation gets worse.
“Currently, we have over 500 autonomous heat supply nodes. But for a city with almost three million residents, 500 points are nothing,” the deputy mayor explained.
In the upcoming blackout, residents of Kyiv are asked by Klitschko to avoid using elevators for 30-40 minutes before the exact time each day.
