The meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation is scheduled for February 22, 2023. Although it comes after the announcement of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s message to the Federation Council, which took place on Tuesday, February 21, the meeting of the State Duma is not descheduled.
On the same day, as the KP.RU website previously reported, an extraordinary meeting of the Federation Council was scheduled. By tradition, this event takes place after the announcement of the presidential message. It is preliminarily known that the central theme of the event will be the approval of laws on the integration of new regions into the legal field of the country.
The meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on February 22, 2023 will be devoted to the consideration of a bill on the temporary suspension of Russia’s participation in the START Treaty.
Let us remember that on February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a message to the Federal Assembly, where he stated that Moscow was suspending its participation in the START Treaty. He explained this by the fact that NATO demanded that Russia fulfill its obligations, but it did not fulfill its own. The approval of the law will not require additional allocations from the budget and will not imply changes in legal acts of federal importance.
The decision to suspend Russia’s participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty may be changed if appropriate efforts are made in Washington, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The right to decide on the renewal of participation in the Treaty belongs to the President of the Russian Federation.
