Mercadona, as it already did in 2022, increases the salaries in 2023 of its more than 93,300 employees of its workforce in Spain. The supermarket chain argues that what is sought with this annual increase is that its workers do not lose purchasing power, so their salaries are increased by 5.7% as of this same month of January, thus coinciding with the inflation rate that closed last December.
In addition, to all this we must add that the leading food distribution chain in our country, goes a step further, since it will also increase salary supplements starting this new year. Said supplements are established in article 16 of your collective agreement and conform to any of the following modalities: personal, job position and personal activity compensation (functional or circumstantial).
Salaries of Mercadona workers from 2023
So those people who get a full-time job, that is, 40 hours a week, as supermarket staff in the Valencian company, will go from earning 1,425 gross euros per month to 1,507 euros per month when they have less than a year It should be remembered that the salaries of the company chaired by Juan Roig rise proportionally depending on the time that the worker has been in the multinational.
This means that the employees in their second year of work both in their stores and logistics blocks, will earn from 1,543 euros gross to 1,630.95 euros. The same happens after three years, so it changes from 1,712.55 euros gross to 1,810.16 euros. Finally, once the four years of professional performance are exceeded, the payroll changes from 1,901.55 euros gross per month to 2,009.93 euros.
Salaries for part-time at 15 or 20 hours per week
Another point to take into account is that on some occasions, Mercadona hires part-time staff, in shifts of 15 or 20 hours a week, so it is also convenient to take into account how salaries are amortized. Well then, in the event that 15 hours a week are worked, a gross monthly salary of 565 euros will be collected. In the event that it is 20 hours a week, the amount amounted to 753 euros gross per month.
Increase in payrolls in supermarkets: Consum, Lidl…
It should be noted that the Valencia-based company is not the only one to increase payroll in 2023 for its workers. Another that also does it is Consum, which does it by 9%, which has an impact on the money to be collected at the end of the month for more than 9,000 people. Likewise, the agreed increase will be used on other complementary concepts to the salary, such as overtime, night hours outside of working hours or festive hours that are paid for double their value, among others. In addition to the salary, the working members receive the cooperative return that corresponds to them annually from the results, together with the interest for their mandatory contributions to the social capital.
In the case of DIA Supermarkets, it agreed with the unions for a wage increase of between 8 and 12%. On the other hand, it will also activate two special additional extraordinary bonuses for the full validity of the Agreement. The first of these will affect workers who will have a fixed annual salary equal to or less than 23,847 euros, who will receive an extraordinary bonus of 350 euros, the company has detailed. In addition, an exceptional extraordinary bonus was agreed, linked to a certain level of results in the year 2024.
In the case of Lidl, in June last year it agreed with the unions to raise the salary of its 15,500 employees by 7% this year and at least 16.5% until 2025. In addition, the German multinational will incorporate for the first time a salary review clause based on the CPI, being able to reach salary increases of up to 19% in four years.
