In the new version of the Bookmate application, which was bought by Yandex, books containing criticism of the Soviet and Russian authorities, as well as novels on LGBT themes, are no longer available. The Sirena telegram channel writes about this: its readers complained about the loss of works.
Among these books are “Government House” by Yuri Slezkin and “Russia in a concentration camp” by Ivan Solonevich about the Soviet Union, officials and the Gulag, “Summer in a pioneer lasso” by Elena Malisova and Katerina Silvanova.
On December 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on a complete ban on LGBT propaganda, regardless of age (previously, propaganda was prohibited only among minors). The corresponding amendments were made to the law “On information, information technologies and information protection”.
Earlier, the “Liters” e-book and audiobook service announced that it would remove from the range of books that may be subject to the law on a complete ban on LGBT propaganda, sex change and pedophilia. They will be put back up for sale after the authors rewrite the content.
