“We have our own design bureau for innovative developments, our specialization is the creation of heavy trailed equipment that adapts to any need,” explained the company’s general designer, Andrei Lipenkov.
The rally trailers were manufactured in two months in strict accordance with the technical specifications that the designers developed in close cooperation with the customer. The uniqueness of these products lies in a complex framework that takes into account the characteristics of the cargo: the vehicles and the spare parts required for them. It was important to clearly observe the length and height dimensions in order to be able to use them abroad. The length of each road train must not exceed 18 meters (in Russia the standard is 20), and the height of the cargo must not exceed the dimensions of the tractor. To this end, the trailers were provided with special niches for the wheels of racing trucks, so that they would be lower.
– The trailers successfully coped with their task, accompanying us all the way from Miass to Ulaanbaatar and back without any complaints. With their help, we now save the resources of rally cars and our crews. In addition, the special equipment was a great help in case of breakdowns on the road. Previously, the trucks had to be repaired on site, but this year we can send them to the camp and repair them in comfortable technical conditions,” said Viktor Yakovlev, head of the motorsport department at the Miass automobile plant.
And although the participation of the South Urals in this year’s rally turned out to be unsuccessful (one team was forced to abandon the race due to a driver’s injury, and the other did not reach the finish line after about 30 kilometers due to a technical malfunction), it was still useful because it helped to identify weaknesses in the preparation of rally equipment and organizational shortcomings.
For the upcoming races, the car factory will upgrade the cars and conduct additional training for the crews. The trailers that have proven their reliability are included in the team and will take part in the upcoming competitions.
