The priority tasks of this program are not only to increase life expectancy, but also to prolong its active part, improve the quality of life of the elderly and reduce mortality from chronic non-communicable diseases.
“In the regions of Russia, today 82 geriatric centers are already operating, more than 1.2 thousand geriatric wards have been opened to provide outpatient care for elderly patients. From January to March 2023, almost 45 thousand elderly citizens and senile were hospitalized in geriatric beds by almost 25% compared to 2021, the number of geriatricians has increased, at the beginning of 2023, we had 1.6 thousand such doctors,” said Mikhail Murashko.
He said that the Russian Ministry of Health has adopted medical care standards for the most common diseases in older patients. Another achievement of recent years is that old age is no longer a limitation to perform necessary medical interventions, even high-tech ones.
“Further development of geriatrics is impossible without the close interaction of doctors of all profiles, their cooperation with social protection authorities, which will allow senior citizens to remain healthy and socially active for as long as possible,” the minister concluded. .
