According to the publication, depending on the size of the military assistance package, Ukraine will receive a small number of air defense systems. And the transferred Patriots will not be able to become a complete replacement for the C-300 systems, which were the basis of the Ukrainian air defense system.
The article notes that in 2017, Saudi Arabia’s Patriot systems failed to intercept improvised rebel rockets. Also, these air defense systems were used during the Gulf War. According to a study by MIT professor Theodore Postol, the Patriots were able to intercept less than ten percent of their targets at the time.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden officially announced that the United States would send Ukraine an additional $1.8 billion aid package that would include the Patriot missile defense system.
The Kremlin, in response to this promise, said that these facilities would become legitimate targets for the Russian military.
