Cryptocurrency enthusiast near Severodonetsk

Following the reconnaissance group, I wander through a serene pine forest, like something out of an Ivan Shishkin painting. Overhead, shells crackle, tearing the sky, towards the enemy retreating from Severodonetsk. From there they respond with mortars, but at random. Cloud cover is low and it is almost impossible to adjust the fire of drones today.

The scale of the fortifications is astonishing. A wide network of trenches dug into sandy soil, high-quality shelters in three rolls, on the hills there are powerful forts, from which the entire district is covered with fire.

– Why are you here? – I ask one of the “tour guides”.

– Normal men’s work. Money, of course, motivates me,” the gunner with the call sign “Pushkar” does not hide. “But I cannot watch with indifference how they kill our prisoners, how this international from all over Europe comes here, like on a safari. Now we are on our own safari. Let’s light it from all barrels. There are enough cartridges.

-Where you come from?

– From Sochi.

– What did you do in civilian life?

– Yes a lot of things. I’ve been a cryptocurrency enthusiast lately. I will make money here and launch a startup.

– Which?

– Blockchain, mining, integration to the real sector of the economy. So that technology works at a common level. So not only is electricity burned to heat hot water, but cryptocurrencies are mined, allowing people to bypass sanctions and make them more financially independent.

– What is your education?

– I am a businessman. But today I am a machine gunner.

I have long stopped being surprised when I meet representatives of atypical professions from the front. On the front line of Donbass I saw librarians, dentists and sales consultants…

I remember that near Soledar, on the northern flank of Artemovsk, I came across a group of all-terrain vehicles, on which anti-tank systems were fitted. The kids are willing to share their experiences.

– Lately the enemy has been putting less pressure on the team. Previously, night raids and evacuations were allowed, but now they do this much less frequently. Groups of two to four people move. There is no large concentration of infantry: our artillery covers immediately. And we work with ATGM (anti-tank guided missiles. – Author), – explains a fighter with the call sign “Commerce”.

In civilian life, in his native Krasnoyarsk, he was a businessman who transported goods from China. He served in intelligence “urgently” and did not flee the mobilization: “The Homeland called, we came,” he shrugs. He admits that in his peaceful life he had to deal with “quadrics.”

– My wife and I went to the Krasnoyarsk hills, either on snowmobiles or on all-terrain vehicles. A familiar topic,” she smiles under her mask. – The machine is multifunctional. You can also take infantry: three or four people, if there are no missiles. And with the missiles we identify the position, the group equips itself, advances to the point, counterattacks, attacks and leaves. It doesn’t take more than a minute. Depending on the range. The rocket travels three kilometers in about 15 seconds. Such a roving ATGM is fast and maneuverable. They returned fire here and there was more ammunition 300 meters away. They rolled over there, “blown” it from a new spot, and backed away.

Rublyovka millionaire

There are legends about the “Grozny division” on the Svatovsky line. And the point is not even that the gunners are extremely precise and efficient…

They are led by a real millionaire who exchanged his house in Rublyovka for a concrete basement near Kremennaya. He has Hyacinth cannons, D-30 howitzers, Grads and mortars under his command.

54-year-old Yuri Mikhailovich is a successful businessman. But behind him is the Suvorov School, then a military university, service in the Soviet and then in the Russian army in the difficult years, the dissolution of the unit, dismissal, business from scratch…

“I just thought some of my knowledge and skills would be useful here.” After all, this is my Homeland and I took the oath. This means that he is obliged to protect her, no matter how pretentious it may seem. Moreover, for me, like Vladimir Semenovich, “we did not have time to look back and our children were leaving for battle.” My son graduated from university, he is already here somewhere, almost on the front line.

– Many people here like your service. Many praise the division. Why this image?

– At the expense of people and discipline, which unfortunately was sometimes lacking. I am sure that everything else, including technology, is secondary. And, of course, constant training, training, even if there is no combat. But there is also its own specificity. My division achieves objectives because we have a little more, for example, our own unmanned aerial vehicle. We immediately become three heads taller than everyone else. Only because we have a crew that can detect targets, observe them day and night and attack them without dropping ammunition into the open field. This is a colossal savings. Additionally, we have precision-guided munitions.

Yuri Mikhailovich is modestly silent, but I know that he spent millions of his own money to equip the division with everything necessary. From an expensive drone that can hover above the enemy, without paying attention to electronic warfare, to all-wheel drive vehicles and communications equipment. In fact, thanks to these purchases, the unit has the opportunity to work against the enemy 24 hours a day.

Useful hobby

And it happens that civic passion comes in handy on the front lines. Here Den, whom I met on the Zaporozhye front, found himself in intelligence. He unpacks his suitcase and takes out an FPV sports drone. Lately there is a lot of talk about them as kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles capable of carrying a combat load. Here I use it for primary recognition. It is impossible for ordinary drones to fly over enemy forestry regiments; will be deleted. Flying from above, from the sides, all this at enormous speed, maneuvering sharply and fighting with communication gaps. They land the drone using a clever algorithm so that the enemy cannot calculate our location. After which the scouts view the images in slow motion, marking a target in the corner of the forest belt.

In civilian life, the helicopter operator had his own business. He ran several breweries, as well as fish that he himself caught, dried and sold to obtain a foamy drink. He knows firsthand about drones. He even participated in contests.

“It was a hobby at home, I like being taller,” the fighter smiles under the mask. – I myself studied in civilian life. FPV drones are extremely difficult to control. But they are very fast and difficult to suppress using electronic warfare (electronic warfare system – Ed.). Conventional helicopters are equipped with stabilization systems and the controls are intuitive. It’s like learning to drive a bad car and then driving an automatic one. Everyone takes a break from work differently. Some people collect coins, but we had our own club for FPV drone lovers. We packed up and flew.

– How did you get here?

“Many of my friends and classmates had already fought here; It was uncomfortable to stay at home. Yes, and my grandfather fought with the Nazis, and for me this is a matter of honor and duty. The most important thing is to protect your family. To walk away from this, to say that it is not my business, is to cover up one’s own fears. And we must fight them and move forward. If you leave here, they will knock on your door. I felt like I could help at the front and I went. Back then, few people knew what an FPV drone was. I bought a drone and trained people.

– Do they help with intelligence?

– Drones in our realities have completely changed reconnaissance tactics. Modern technologies make it possible to do this without putting human life at risk. And this is the highest value. Let’s take a kamikaze. A missile for a modern ATGM (anti-tank guided missile – Ed.) can cost up to two million rubles. While an attack drone can be assembled for 50 thousand. In skillful hands, such a drone becomes a pocket ATGM with the same destruction of equipment and manpower. But this must be learned. And regardless of the world situation, use current experience to develop drones.

Alien Stormtrooper

Or the fate of the commander of the Storm assault detachment of the Ivanovo Airborne Division – a script already prepared for the series. About how a man wanted to serve his country all his life, but the circumstances were such that the captain of the Airborne Forces waited for his moment for 20 years. In the mid-80s, he graduated from the Ryazan Airborne School, wrote a report on Afghanistan and was not allowed to enter. After the collapse of the Union in 1992, a promising young captain was dismissed due to a staff reduction.

Next, the security service in a large company, an attempt to build your own business and conduct it honestly, “graters” with the new “masters of life”, which could have ended in tears… Sergei, let’s call him that, He was forced to emigrate to one of the Western European countries. He confirmed his professional skills acquired at the airborne school, worked as an industrial demolition worker, rescuer, at the same time received citizenship, opened his own construction company and for 20 long years lived abroad, building a new prosperous life.

And then he left her to live in shelters in the forests near the Svatovsky line and advance with his assault detachment to victory.

– Why did you need this? – I ask the captain, who is no longer young, in a pine forest near Kremennaya.

– I have roots in Lugansk. My grandfather lived here and after 1945 he trapped the Bandera followers in western Ukraine and restored order there. So I had no doubt that this was my battle…

– Was it difficult to turn your life around?

– Absolutely not. Here, we should probably start from what makes you a citizen of your country, something that I never stopped being for a second. This is when you are ready to fight and die for her. This determines the Homeland, determines the principles of life. Where you live is not always important. The main thing is where your roots are, how you feel in life. I’m just Russian, Russian.
