Morant rules out that the Scholarship Statute is approved before 23-J

Date: April 24, 2024 Time: 09:43:32

After the great debate on the contribution of students in unpaid internships and the uncertainty about the date on which it will come into force, the Minister of Science, the socialist Diana Morant, has ruled out that the Scholarship Statute agreed between the Government and the majority unions go through the Council of Ministers before the general elections of 23J: “I understand that it is ruled out”. A whole jug of cold water for the second vice president.

The minister responded in this way, to the questions from journalists in Valencia, about the agreement made this Thursday by the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, with the CCOO and UGT. However, the document does not have the support of the CEOE, since its owner, Antonio Garamendi, believes that it is an “electoral act” to approve it before the elections.

However, Morant added, after “greeting and applauding” the agreement, that the statute “now needs the time that any measure requires to be able to work with universities, companies and, ultimately, with all the actors involved”.

Morant: “The Statute needs a normal process”

As the minister has confirmed, the Statute of the Scholar “has to follow its normal course and work with the parliamentary groups, and at this moment we do not have parliamentary groups”. An allusion from the head of Science to the fact that the Permanent Deputation has been activated in Congress since the end of May, to continue operating until the dissolution of the chamber. For all these reasons, the also head of the PSOE list for Valencia to Congress on 23J has defended that the Scholarship Statute “needs a normal process to be a good measure.”
