Moscow’s Pushkin Theatre opened its 75th anniversary season: the artistic director strictly directed the troupe’s meeting

Date: October 11, 2024 Time: 17:03:29

First of all, artistic director Evgeny Pisarev spoke about the theatre’s creative plans.

On September 17, an updated version of the play “The Mousetrap” directed by Nadezhda Arakcheeva will be screened on the main stage.

November 22 – Pre-premiere screening of the play “Bad Good” based on Oscar Wilde’s play “Lady Windermere’s Fan” directed by Evgeny Pisarev. The premiere is scheduled for December 25, the 110th anniversary of the Chamber Theatre, the predecessor of the Pushkin Theatre.

In March, director Igor Teplov will premiere a play based on Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s play “A Lady’s Visit.”

The premiere of the play “The Tempest” based on Shakespeare’s play, directed by Nikolai Roshchin, will take place in May.

A concert will be held to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

“The 80th anniversary of Victory is an important date for us,” said Evgeny Pisarev. “We are seriously preparing for it. We came up with a name for the evening. But then we found out that two other Moscow theatres had come up with exactly the same name. So we will think further.”…

The stage of the branch is to host “Five Evenings” dedicated to the history of the Pushkin Theatre. They will form the basis for a grand anniversary evening, which will take place at the beginning of the next season on the main stage.

The head of the Moscow Department of Culture, Alexey Fursin, came to the Pushkin Theatre to meet the troupe. He was invited on stage to the microphone:

– We all, including theatres, work for the people. On the way, I read what people write about your theatre on social networks. “Stylish, fashionable, sincere, comfortable” – that’s what I read in the reviews of the spectators. You have your own audience. An established audience. This is good. But it’s also important that new spectators approach you…

Fursin meant youth.

It is really nice that not only retirees come to the theatre, they have been accustomed to coming here since childhood, when they first saw the play “The Scarlet Flower” here. The premiere took place in 1950. And the play is still in the repertoire.

After Fursin, Evgeny Pisarev took the floor again. And this was his opening speech. Much has been said about it. There was a critical look, although that is not accepted. Usually the company meeting is a “period of sweets and bouquets”, when artistic directors limit themselves to congratulating and praising the artists. And only confident and experienced leaders allow themselves to make critical remarks. Evgeny Pisarev has been running this theatre for 15 years. He has the right to criticize.

– The Pushkin Theatre is a theatre for spectators. We have never deviated from this line. We do not depend on the opinions of critics, bloggers and all kinds of cliques. “We unite the audience,” said Pisarev. – It is very important to show the humanization of a person on stage. We must counter bitterness, gossip, denunciations and thirst for revenge with faith in a person.

Our halls are full. Before I came, there had not been a full hall here for a long time. When I was invited here, many people dissuaded me. Especially Mark Zakharov. He said: “Don’t go. This is a theatre with bad energy. With the inertia of failure.” It seems to me that this is a misconception about our theatre. Satiety and cabotinism are not what we were looking for at the beginning of the journey. And it doesn’t suit me now.

My teacher Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov, a brilliant leader, the best, said: “In the theatre, only what is useful, interesting and possible for the theatre is useful, interesting and possible.” That is, first of all, the interests of the theatre and only then the personal interests of the artists. For example, working on the side. The theatre has never put any restraints on artists, nor has it forbidden them to act in films, perform in a company, participate in concerts and do much more to earn money. But the main thing is still work in our theatre. And if working in the performances of the Theatre of Nations, where the participation of our artists exceeds all “sanitary standards”, is acceptable – this is a friendly theatre for us, I also stage plays there, then I cannot say the same about other theatres. Working in other theatres, for example in our neighbouring theatre on Malaya Bronnaya, will be considered for me as work for competitors. Although I have nothing against its artistic director Konstantin Bogomolov. Let us adhere to corporate ethics. Democracy does not take root in the theatre. It has not taken root anywhere… Any further encouragement for its contribution to the life of the theatre is not the responsibility of the administration, but of its good will…

One can only guess who Pisarev was talking about. He did not name any names. But he said that he does not see many leading artists of the Pushkin Theatre in the hall these days. We also did not find actress Victoria Isakova at the troupe meeting, whether she is filming or somewhere else. Alexandra Ursulyak happily reports in her Telegram: “And now I am in Norilsk!”

Pisarev also spoke about “company observation”. Being a modern artist and not seeing the best performances in other theatres is wrong. And here we are ready to subscribe to every one of his words. Unfortunately, many artists are neither curious nor lazy.

Pisarev said he was going to put on a big musical performance at the Pushkin Theatre.

And finally, everyone was invited to the second-floor foyer, where an exhibition on the history of the Chamber Theatre, which opened 110 years ago, and the Pushkin Theatre was opened. What happened before and what happens now.

One of the first to come to the exhibition was People’s Artist Vera Alentova, a former resident of this theatre. She looked intently at posters and photographs of old performances. And in them I saw myself as a young person. Either it was a wave of nostalgia or Vera Valentinovna was simply not in the mood, but she refused to communicate with journalists. She did not even want to talk about the filming of the new version of “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”: “I heard that they will film it. But I do not want to discuss this topic.”…

Good news: a monument to Alexander Tairov and Alisa Koonen will soon appear at the entrance to the Pushkin Theatre. The author of the monument is sculptor Philip Trushin.
