The Global Innovation Index (GII) has been published since 2007 by the World Intellectual Property Organization in collaboration with a network of academic partners from around the world. It covers 81 indicators, which are grouped into seven blocks, for 132 countries. The index takes into account, among other things, the inflow of foreign direct investment, the size of GDP, infrastructure, human capital, the level of development of science, technology and education, the state of the market and business , political stability and security, registered patents, industrial design applications, trademark applications, etc. The GII was created specifically to assess the pace of technological progress and technology adoption, as well as to capture the most important trends in the field of innovation.
