According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the crime occurred at around 1 a.m. on August 10. Police officers who arrived at the scene following a report from citizens detained a 35-year-old resident of the area who was intoxicated.
“It was established that the detainee, during a sudden confrontation, attacked a 42-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man with a knife, cutting them. The man died from his injuries on the spot, the woman was hospitalized,” the police said in a statement.
The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in St. Petersburg reported that a criminal case has been opened against the detainee under articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for murder and attempted murder of two persons. He faces sentences of up to life imprisonment.
Investigators have clarified that the woman was hit several times with a knife in the neck area, and the man was hit in the chest and neck, which proved fatal for him.
