Netflix cancels ‘1899’ from the creators of ‘Dark’ after season 1

Date: April 19, 2024 Time: 16:01:46

The streaming service Netflix will not renew 1899 for a second season. This was announced by one of the creators of the Baran bo Odar program on social networks. He is quoted by Variety.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would love to complete this incredible journey with a second and third season, just like we did with Darkness. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. This is life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this wonderful adventure,” Odar wrote.

Odar collaborated with Jantje Friese on the series. They are known for the Darkness project, which also aired on Netflix from 2017 to 2020.

1899 is about a group of immigrants who head to New York to start a new life. They come across another ship, which leads to a series of mysterious events.

The show debuted on the streamer on November 17, 2022. In four days, “1899” garnered around 79.27 million hours watched, second only to the fifth season of “The Crown” in the rankings.

Recall that the shooting of the series took place at Studio Babelsberg near Berlin, using LED-Volume technology, which replaced the usual “green screen”. It was previously tested on Disney+’s The Mandalorian. You can watch the 1899 trailer here.
