In late July, the FSB’s Public Relations Centre published a video of the arrest of three young men who were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Kaspiysk. They bought components for the explosive device in shops and markets in the city and found assembly instructions on the Internet.
As law enforcement sources told RG, it is possible that other accomplices will also be identified.
All three were charged under articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Organization of a terrorist community and participation in it”, “Illegal production of explosives”, “Preparation for a crime and attempted crime” and “Terrorist act”. The Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala chose a preventive measure for the suspects – detention for two months. The court’s press service shared with RG some information from the indictment materials presented by the investigation: “All suspects, having united in advance into a stable group, created a terrorist community with the aim of committing an attack on the church. “Together with their parishioners, as well as for other particularly serious crimes, they made an explosive device that they were supposed to use.” An investigation is underway. As law enforcement sources told RG, it is possible that other accomplices will be identified during the investigation. Any information and signals are carefully analyzed to prevent further emergencies. “Preventive and proactive work is now our main task,” representatives of the special services told RG.
