Exactly two weeks after the devastating disaster – a new powerful earthquake in Turkey and Syria – strong tremors are being felt again in the region, reports a KP correspondent in Turkey. A magnitude 6.4 earthquake began at 20:04 Moscow time. Its epicenter was nine kilometers from Antakya in Turkey and 75 kilometers from Syria Latakia. The source of the earthquake was at a depth of about two kilometers. According to European seismologists, it was also felt in Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Cyprus.
At 20:07 Moscow time, the Turkish Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) reported a second 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Hatay province. According to CNN Türk, the natural disaster has caused new destruction.
“The earth trembled under my feet. There were very strong tremors, there is destruction,” the correspondent said.
For its part, the Al Haber television channel reported power outages in Hatay province.
“Electricity is completely cut off in the region. The rubble was being dismantled, but we saw how buildings that had not been destroyed before were collapsing before our eyes,” correspondent Emine Kavasoglu said.

The mayor of Hatay, Lutfu Savas, said that as a result of the quake several buildings in the city were destroyed, there are people under the rubble.
For their part, the Turkish authorities warned citizens not to go near the sea in Hatay province due to the risk of the water level rising to 50 centimeters. After new earthquakes in the southeast of the country, it is known that eight people were injured, they are hospitalized, there is no risk of a tsunami, said the vice president.
