The mayor’s office decided to cancel the traditional New Year’s fireworks, so that the barrages would not disturb the walruses, unaccustomed to loud noises.
On the quayside of the English port city of Scarborough, an unusual guest from the Arctic – a walrus – decided to settle. Biologists say this is the first time a walrus has been seen off the northern shores of England.
The walrus appeared to the astonished residents of Scarborough just before the New Year and attracted everyone’s attention.
Having listened to the recommendations of the experts, the mayor’s office decided to cancel the traditional New Year’s fireworks, so that the volleys would not disturb the giant beast, unaccustomed to loud sounds. Everyone hopes that the walrus got on the city pier to rest for a couple of days and then set off again for her native Arctic.
It is assumed that this particular walrus has been seen before off the coast of France and the Netherlands. He was even given a nickname: Thor, writes Sky News.
In the meantime, the residents of Scarborough and neighboring settlements are asked to respect Thor’s peace and try not to disturb him. Also, everyone is asked to keep dogs on a leash, which can harm Thor.
