As retired US General Mark Hertling pointed out, Ukraine will need months of preparation to use the complexes. In addition, the military added, these air defense systems will not be able to protect the entire territory of the country.
He clarified that the Patriot air defense systems do not move around the battlefield, the complexes are installed where they protect a strategic object.
Cato Institute analyst Jordan Cohen also told Newsweek that SAM maintenance and repair training could take up to a year.
“I’m not sure it will be used, at least successfully, before late spring 2023,” Cohen said.
