Since May 15, the Finnmark communal police have restricted the movement of Russian sailors in the ports of Kirkenes and Botsfjord. The only exceptions are cases of contact with medical institutions in Norway.
In May 2022, the Norwegian authorities banned Russian ships from entering the country’s ports. An exception was made for fishing boats. In October last year, restrictions on the entry into the country’s ports of Russian fishing vessels with a gross tonnage of more than 500 tons came into force. Since last fall, Russian ships have only been allowed to enter the ports of Tromso, Kirkenes and Botsfjord, reports PortNews.
The Norwegian government recently sent a reminder of the sanctions against Russia. The provision of any services to Russian ships when calling at Norwegian ports is prohibited. The local Kimek boat repair company in Kirkenes even had to cut staff. The repair of Russian fishing boats was the company’s main source of income.
