The Norwegian Department of Security and Services (DSS) on Thursday called on police to remove activists blocking entrances to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Trade and Fisheries and the Ministry of Culture. and Equality. At the same time, the authorities do not oppose rallies outside the entrances to the apartments. In case of disobedience, offenders are arrested, taken to the police station and fined. And the fines for such violations are steep, police operations chief Tore Barstad told the Norwegian news agency NTB.
On Thursday morning, several activists sat in front of ten Norwegian ministries. Above the Ministry of Oil and Energy, they hung a banner “Give back the land.” The participants stated that they would continue the action until the wind turbines on the Fosen Peninsula were dismantled.
Fosen’s two wind farms, Roan and Sturheia, were built in 2019 and 2020. They are located in areas used by two communities of Saami reindeer herders, which are home to six Southern Saami families. The wind turbines annoy the deer and threaten the livelihood of the locals.
On October 11, 2021, the Norwegian Supreme Court invalidated the concession and expropriation decisions related to wind power development at Fosen. The court ruled that these decisions violated the rights of local reindeer herders. 500 days have passed since the verdict was delivered, but nothing has changed so far.
Norwegian oil and energy minister Terje Åsland said authorities need to get more information about the pastures before a decision can be made on the wind turbines at Fosen. In his opinion, it could take up to a year.
