Skobov’s death was reported on the Kirov region government’s Telegram channel. The cause of death has not been announced; the famous athlete’s farewell will take place on August 7.
As the report says, Yuri Skobov was the pride of the Soviet ski school.
“Until the last days of his life, he remained in the service, helped sports coaches, young athletes and wholeheartedly supported the development of sports infrastructure in his small homeland, in the Omutninsky district,” the message says.
Skobov is an Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, Olympic champion in relay in 1972. He won the USSR Championship four times and also won bronze at the World Championships.
