On-demand football rises in price with the landing of the winter market

Date: May 30, 2023 Time: 22:59:07

With the arrival of winter, there are many soccer teams that take advantage of the arrival of the winter market to strengthen their squads in the middle of the season. However, this year the clubs will not be the only ones who will see how the season makes their pockets more expensive, those spectators who want to see the new signings of their team will also suffer, and enjoy the final stretch of the season.

The January slope has achieved a wave of price increases for the services of the main telecommunications companies. Customers of large operators such as Orange and Movistar will receive an increase in mobile, fiber and television rates on their bills, where packages that include contracting football on demand are affected. However, the increase will not only occur from these companies, since Dazn has launched, since January 16, new increases for its sports broadcast plans.

The British OTT, which has made a significant outlay to extend its offer this season, has carried out an increase -the second in less than a year- in the price of the subscriptions of the three plans it offers its users. Thus, the ‘Essential Plan’, which includes all sports except LaLiga, goes from costing 12.99 to 18.99 euros per month. There is also the new installment annual payment option, for 155.88 euros, or the single annual payment, for 149.99 euros, twenty euros more than up to now.

For its part, the ‘Total Plan’, which offers access to all its content available on its platform, whose price was 4.99 euros is now 29.99 euros per month or an annual installment payment of 299.99 euros, which would leave the price at 24.99 euros, the same as up to now with the monthly option. The recently released ‘Plan Victoria’, focused on women’s football, goes on the market from this Monday with a monthly fee of 9.99 euros.

Movistar updates its rates

In the case of Movistar, the blue operator launched a promotion that reduced the price of football by 25% for new hires. That promotion expired with the arrival of 2023, giving rise to a new price update that came into effect last Friday.

In this context, the prices of the three football packages rise between 1 and 2 euros per month, so that the ‘All football’ plan goes from costing 43 to 45 euros per month, the ‘Only LaLiga’ plan goes up 2 euros up to €32 and finally its ‘Solo la Champions’ package scales one euro up to €21. With all this, the minimum price to watch football on Movistar (Movistar Max + Essential TV + All football) has risen from 107.90 to 113.90 euros per month, 6 euros more per month in total.

Orange raises its quotas

Orange customers will also be affected, since the company announced last Thursday a new increase in the monthly fee for its combined fiber and mobile rates, which will grow below the CPI, and will come into force as of next 12 march. Specifically, convergent planes that do not include football will cost 2 euros more per month, and rates with football included will cost 5 euros more per month.
