Operator of major West Siberian oil pipelines steps up introduction of environmental technologies KXan 36 Daily News

To talk about how the principles of sound environmental management are implemented at the production site of one of the leading companies in the region, the management of Transneft Western Siberia JSC organized a press tour for Omsk journalists. And it even allowed them to climb to the top of the oil depot as high as a seven-story building. From here you can see the entire territory of the Omsk LPDS, one of the largest oil pumping stations of the company, to the horizon.

From a bird’s eye view, the production site of the LPDS station appears renovated and well-kept. Most of the territory is occupied by oil deposits. And also industrial buildings: garages, a fire station, main and holding pumping stations, a district control center and a laboratory. All this is connected by smooth asphalt roads. Directly below us are two electric bus-vehicles. Workers move between buildings on bicycles. It’s easy to breathe, and a ladybug is climbing up our commissioner’s lapel.

The production order is one of the components of the successful operation of the Omsk LPDS, which is a key production facility of the main oil pipeline system in Western Siberia. The station is located at the intersection of several oil streams. Here the accepted and delivered oil is accounted for.

– The company has a tank park with a total volume of approximately 450 thousand cubic meters and pumping stations. The area of responsibility of the station also includes three main oil pipelines: “Omsk – Irkutsk”, “Omsk – Pavlodar” and “TON-2″ (to the border with the Republic of Kazakhstan), – explains the Deputy Director General of JSC ” Transneft – Western Siberia” for freight operations Dmitry Khrychev. – Guaranteeing a high level of ecology is one of the main priorities of our company. Significant funds are invested in environmental protection. In 2022, they amounted to more than 250 million rubles. Almost half of these funds are allocated to the modernization of the productive infrastructure.

At the same time, the introduction of modern technologies is inextricably linked with the environment.

– These oil tanks, for example, are equipped with pontoons or floating roofs. An aluminum pontoon located on the surface of the liquid prevents the evaporation of the oil during storage and, in parallel, the release of associated gases to the outside, explains Dmitry Khrychev. – At the Omsk station, pontoons are installed on all tanks with a volume of twenty thousand cubic meters, and floating roofs are installed on tanks with a volume of fifty thousand cubic meters. And this, of course, has a beneficial effect on the environment.

In order not to be unfounded, it leads us to the construction of an environmental analysis laboratory, whose experts must corroborate the above with concrete figures. For access to sterile rooms equipped with precise instruments, we are offered to replace work overalls, boots and helmets (which were given before the tour) with snow-white clothes and special glasses.

There are seven people in the laboratory staff and they are all busy with work.

– Our experts carry out constant environmental monitoring of various indicators: atmospheric air, wastewater, natural water and drinking water. They monitor the state of the soil and the performance of treatment facilities, – lists the head of the laboratory Sofya Zueva. – Last year, employees took almost 3.8 thousand samples, conducted 8.1 thousand studies on 34 indicators. In the first quarter of this year – 750 samples and 1,350 analyses. At the same time, no excess of MPC was detected.

The equipment of the Omsk LPDS environmental analytical laboratory is constantly updated. Five teams have been acquired in the last year alone. Among them are multifunctional gas analyzers capable of measuring the level of nitrogen, carbon and sulfur compounds both in the atmosphere and in the production area. All domestically produced devices.

With their help, specialists conjure up flasks and test tubes before our eyes. Liquids change color. Counters give numbers by which, using formulas, you can calculate the necessary parameters. Journalists also have the opportunity to “change professions” and participate in laboratory experiments. And as a result of “independent” measurements and calculations, it turns out that the environmental performance of samples of sewage, water and air on the territory of the enterprise is an order of magnitude lower than MPC.

All laboratory data is publicly available. Therefore, it is easy for regulatory authorities to keep them in their sights.

The company does not save on staff training either. In 2022, 2.5 million rubles were allocated for these purposes. As a result, more than 140 employees, including laboratory personnel, have been trained in 22 specialized programs.

The environmental agenda of JSC “Transneft – Western Siberia” includes the protection and preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity. The company is actively restoring forests, not only in Omsk, but also in the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions. During the last year more than two hundred thousand pine and spruce seedlings have been planted. And the budget for storing reservoirs in the regions where the company operates amounted to 1.2 million rubles, and this is 50 thousand released fry of valuable fish species – nelma and muksun.

Volunteers from the company participate in cleaning parks and squares in the city, plant trees and help in animal shelters. With the proceeds from the collection of recyclables, excursions are organized for students from social centers. And in 2022, with the financial assistance of the company, a special landscape exhibition was organized at the Omsk exhibition of ecological construction “Flora”.

JSC “Transneft – Western Siberia” operates more than 4.5 thousand kilometers of main oil pipelines and more than 1.1 thousand kilometers of oil pipelines. It serves 198 kilometers of submarine crossings, including those of the Tom, Irtysh, Ob, Yenisei rivers.

The environmental management system was introduced in the company in 2003. Since then, an external audit has traditionally confirmed the compliance of the company’s activities with the requirements of international standards.
