Ouigo opens to agree to an agreement with its staff after the complaints of the drivers

The board of directors of the railway operator Ouigo and its works council have agreed today to start negotiations to agree on a collective company agreement that allows regulating the conditions of its workforce in Spain, after in recent weeks there have been claims from train drivers and other personnel to obtain an agreement that allows them to regulate their working conditions.

The announcement of this start of talks comes days after the private operator, also opened to negotiate the regulation of the Condicals Labor Ales of its machinists with a majority union, Semaf, after knowing that the lack of driving personnel available for the summer jeopardized their planned services.

This lack of personnel, which both actors have suffered for several months, coinciding with their expansion plans, has caused inconvenience in the group of train drivers, who have denounced that the companies are breaking breaks at the cost of offering ‘extra hours’ to their employees.

The agreement reached in Iryo includes a planning of the working hours that guarantees and respects the maximum working and driving hours or the daily and weekly breaks. This planning will be included in the future Fringe-Agreement, the same instrument as the one announced today by Ouigo, whose negotiation will soon start in a negotiating commission.

The requirements of the workers accepted by the management of Iryo include compliance with the training regulations for driving personnel, the design of an equality plan and “providing a solution to ungodly days”, providing parking spaces for staff with schedules night shifts or, failing that, that the company has a taxi service to transport staff to their homes.

The different claims launched by the personnel of the private operators have their origin in the lack of a sectoral collective agreement that establishes the minimum working conditions, currently regulated by Law. Today, a large part of the railway personnel who work in private companies their contracts are linked to the construction agreement, given the link that existed between the execution of new railway infrastructures.
