The collections of Russian fashion designers were not presented at the January haute couture week in Paris. We found out: which of the domestic fashion designers was able to get to this fashion show and what he lost or gained after that.

Russian models walked the fashion catwalks in Paris: Sasha Pivovarova, Irina Shayk and other beauties – they live and work abroad. There were guests from Russia at the shows: producer Yana Rudkovskaya, blogger Aunt Motya (Natasha Davydova) and other rich ladies. In the fashion week, collections of three Russian fashion designer brands could theoretically be presented: Valentin Yudashkin, Ulyana Sergienko, Yulia Yanina. However, they were suspended from participating in the couture week: both in the summer of 2022 and now in January 2023. Therefore, only Yanina made a new couture collection now; the rest was not even spent.

Dresses from Yanina’s haute couture collection are only made to order at a special price. And the average price of a dress from the “regular” collections is from 30 thousand rubles to 130 thousand rubles. Photo: telegram channel Yulia Yanina.

Haute Couture Week is attended by houses that are members of, or receive permission from, the French Syndicate of Haute Couture Houses to participate in the show, as guests. To get into this very Syndicate, you need not only to sew beautiful clothes from high-quality materials, which are appreciated all over the world, but also to fulfill a whole list of requirements: for example, 70% of the collection must be sewn manually. . Haute couture collections are shown twice a year at fashion week – these are expensive clothes that are completely sewn by hand, in a single copy. Fashion designers in this collection can fantasize: these things are special occasion pieces. Rich and famous fashionistas can order outfits from these couture collections – they will be sewn to individual measurements – the average price of a dress is from 25 to 100 thousand dollars (depending on the complexity of the model, the price of materials ). The haute couture collection is not for mass production: from here, brands read only part of the ideas to create a ready-to-wear collection in the future: and these things are already on mass sale (and the main income) in boutiques, are sewn to standard size lines, but are also difficult to manufacture and must maintain the mark of quality.

Senior stylist Anvar Ochilov explained to KP.RU: “Participation in the Paris haute couture week is a matter of prestige for a brand, it is only important to maintain the image and reputation in the global fashion industry.” .

The removal of Russian brands from Paris Fashion Week does not mean their cancellation in the fashion world. As they say: the organizers played it safe. Ksenia Sobchak followed the event: “Ulyana and Yulia Yanina were not there,” out of harm’s way, “the High Fashion Syndicate did not provide them with the opportunity to show. Although both Houses are part of this very Syndicate.

But the two most popular domestic brands among Western consumers, Ulyana Sergeenko and Yanina, still dress both domestic and Western fashionistas. They launch collections and make good money. The other day, fashion designer Yulia Yanina presented a new collection in a Moscow restaurant – the designer and the guests watched the haute couture online. Last summer, Yanina traditionally worked at the Cannes Film Festival: she received guests in her boutique. On the red carpet, the star of the TV series “The Magnificent Century” Meryem Uzerli and other stars shone in the designer’s dresses. According to experts: the drop in sales to wealthy foreign buyers was around 30%.

Yudashkin has good sales in his homeland: both the largest assortment and the most outlets. Yanina and Sergienko also have sales in order – they have a lot of regular customers. Since his clothes are designed not only for very wealthy clients, but also for “simply well-to-do” people. By the way, the brands saved money: participation in the haute couture week, organization of the show, creation and delivery of the collection cost 1-2 million euros. By ditching the “vanity” spending element, you can send more funds toward branding. For example, Valentin Yudashkin presented the Valentin Yudashkin Haute couture 2022 collection in Moscow last summer in Zaryadye Park on the Soaring Bridge. We are also looking forward to Yudashkin’s haute couture in Moscow in 2023.
