“A year ago, a large-scale renovation of the largest multi-level transport interchange, the Novokutuzovsky Tunnel Complex, located at the intersection of TTK and Kutuzovsky Prospekt, began,” said Petr Biryukov. “In the third and final stage, we will complete the repair of the secondary tunnels, after which we will renew the asphalt concrete pavement and the expansion joints.”
He recalled that since its commissioning in 2000, the structure, which consists of six tunnels and five flyovers, has never been repaired. Due to heavy traffic and weather factors, damage to walls and ceilings occurred.
Work is underway to restore the integrity of the tunnel walls and ceilings, replace the old lining with ceramic-metal, upgrade fire extinguishing, lighting, electricity and water supply and ventilation systems. Household materials and equipment are used.
Despite the fact that the traffic in the entrance and exit tunnels is not closed during the repair period, traffic jams have regularly formed in this place for almost a year. This is due to heavy traffic.
The refurbishment of the facility will be completed in the third quarter of this year.
By the way, over the past 12 years, every bridge facility in the capital has undergone various kinds of repair.
