A 77-year-old resident of Novosibirsk was admitted to the radiation therapy department of the Meshalkin Center in an extremely weakened condition. The retiree was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell skin cancer and severe anemia.
The massive malignant formation was located in the left parotid region and passed into the atrium. The tumor with a diameter of 15 centimeters has long entered the stage of destruction – there were pronounced foci of tissue necrosis. The patient suffered from excruciating pain and bleeding and he had long since given up hope of salvation.
In local medical institutions, the pensioner was offered only symptomatic treatment at home. In other words, they were sent to live out their last days. Desperate, he practically did not get out of bed and did not seek medical help.
However, in three months, specialists from the Meshalkin Center achieved the almost impossible. They not only put grandfather on his feet, but also completely cured the “inoperable” cancer.
First, the transfusionologists stopped the debilitating bleeding. Blood transfusion made it possible to saturate the tissues in the healing zone with oxygen. Vascular surgeons and radiation therapists then joined the patient’s treatment.
– The entire formation was literally saturated with blood. It sprouted through very small vessels, which, due to a number of features, could not contract normally and bled, explains Tatyana Vorobyeva, a radiation therapist at the Meshalkin Center. – At the same time, such an increase in blood supply was beneficial for the tumor itself. This helped her grow faster.
The doctors decided to bet on high-precision radiotherapy.
– At the first stage, irradiation with large fractions made it possible to stop bleeding and create optimal conditions for healing, – explains Tatyana Vorobyeva. – Then a full course of therapeutic radiation was given to reduced education.
Three months after finishing treatment, doctors confirmed complete tumor regression and recovery.
The pensioner only had a small scar near his ear. Doctors say that only he will remind the patient of the disease. The tumor tissue was completely replaced by healthy connective tissue. There is no metastasis.
